Consumerism Reset
After the holidays, I can’t help but naturally want to tone down the constant wanting, chasing, and gifting of material items.
In order to reset my budget, I intentionally scale back for 30 days. I make an effort to avoid stores so I don’t get tempted into impulse purchases. I stick to the essentials of buying food, gas, and paying bills. In fact, I set aside more funds for savings and upcoming expenses.
I also turn my attention to experiences and expressing how I feel to loved ones through written words or art. My idle hands can be occupied by crafting or sketching. The slow process makes you appreciate every part of the process.
When I feel that urge to buy, buy, buy, I:
- Close my eyes to meditate or visualize
- Go for a walk or do simple floor exercises
- Express gratitude for what I already have
